Earthquake Stories
1994 Northridge, California 6.7 Quake
Chuck Wood's Child's Eye View of the Quake
I was only 7 years old at that time and happened at around 4:30 in the morning. I woke up like about 4:15 in the morning and had to go to bathroom and went back to the bed. I was not able to go back to sleep so I decided to read comic book and hoped it would help me to drift back into sleep but it didn't work because of an earthquake. I was about to put the comic book away to the nightstand, before I did. I could feel really heavy and deep sonic-like boom, in my bedroom. I could see everything, bookshelves, nightstand, lamp, my toys, and etc began to shaking in high speed. Next thing I knew that my bedroom was being slammed upward, VERY HARD with absolute amazing power and then dropped back to the ground, VERY HARD and then yanked back and forth, yet also very hard. After the earthquake subsided and I first thought there was a giant monster was right under the house played the game with us with slammed the house upward and yanked the house back and forth. My mom took a while to convince me that it was an earthquake, not a monster! My bookshelves, toys, nighstand, lamp and etc got toppled over completely at the fist slamming motion of the earthquake and played as a scrambling machine inside my bedroom with amazing power.
